Now that you’ve settled back on campus and worked on semester goal setting, it’s time to dig into those career-related goals! Most students got these questions over break “So, what are you going to do after graduation?” or “Have you started looking for summer internships?”
So, what are you doing to secure opportunities for the summer or next year? Luckily, Career Services is here to help you navigate this process and have tips on how to get ahead this semester.
Schedule an Appointment
A great first step is to either stop by our office or call us at (804) 289-8547 to schedule an appointment with a career advisor. During your appointment you can work on creating an action plan of the steps you need to take to reach you career goals. If you’re already coming in for appointments, then make sure to follow back up after doing some work on your search.

Take a look at our upcoming events through logging into SpiderConnect and clicking on the “Events” tab at the top of the page. Here you can view our programs, workshops, information sessions and expos, and even RSVP for these events. Mark them down in your planner now to save the date!
Have you heard about this awesome opportunity yet? Through this program, full-time undergraduate students can apply for two types of programs: research fellowships and grants as well as internship programs that will financially assist students in unpaid or low-paid internships that connect their academic work to the professional world. Deadlines are February 11th for research and March 20th for internships so check them out early.
Already Have Something Lined Up?
For those that already have jobs, internships or grad school lined up, you’re not off the hook this semester! If you’re looking for a place to live during your internship, we’ve created a subgroup on our University of Richmond Career Connections group on LinkedIn. Just click the “More” tab, scroll down to “Subgroups”, find “Summer Housing” and join to connect with other students in the cities where you’re interning. We’re excited for those seniors that have secured their first destination of jobs or grad school, but don’t miss out on events like our Evening of Etiquette Networking Reception and You’re Going to Grad School: Now What? that are coming later in the semester. There are still plenty of skills to gain before you leave in May.
